A FAMILY OF EDUCATORS

Three generations
in the making.

We did not buy a method and open a school around it. The Imagination Factory is where one family's experience with young children — and its inherited stubbornness about how they should be taught — has ended up.

WHAT GETS INHERITED

The method was not designed. It accumulated.

Three generations of this family have spent their working lives with young children. What each one learned did not end up in a filing cabinet — it was handed to the next as a working practice, argued with, corrected, and handed on again.

That is what The Imagination Factory is built on: not a philosophy bought off a shelf, but a method shaped across eight decades of practice, from 1947 to today — and children who keep showing us how the work must continue to grow.

The first generation

Studied how children build knowledge, then opened a school to find out whether the theory survived contact with them.

The second generation

Grew the work, and protected the part of it that mattered while everything around it changed.

The third generation

Grew up inside it — as students, then facilitators, then directors — and built The Imagination Factory around it.

NOT A LABEL — A PRACTICE

We didn't begin with a method. We began by watching children.

Piaget taught us to see the child as a constructor of knowledge. Vygotsky showed how deeply that construction depends on language and relationship. Children themselves showed us how imagination connects it all. Instead of adopting a packaged method as an identity, we built a living one — The Imagination Effect — around what we keep learning from them.

MISSION, VISION & VALUES

Mission

To create the conditions in which children construct knowledge, strengthen their whole development, and discover the power of their own imagination through play.

Vision

A world where early childhood is recognized as a decisive stage of human development — and every child begins life as a confident, curious, creative thinker.

Trust

Children as capable participants in their own development.

Curiosity

We protect questions, uncertainty, and the desire to find out.

Imagination

A cognitive force: creating possibilities before they exist.

Relationship

We grow through belonging, dialogue, care, and collaboration.

Respect

Honoring childhood, individual rhythms, and family cultures.

Joy

Deep learning and genuine joy usually arrive together.

THE PEOPLE

Facilitators of possibility.

Our educators prepare, observe, listen, and respond. They recognize the developmental possibilities inside play without rushing to reveal the answer. They offer language, materials, questions, courage when a child hesitates, and steady reassurance when trying becomes difficult. Their presence is warm and attentive; their trust in children is real. They know when to step forward with support and when to make room, so each child can stretch, take a thoughtful risk, and grow while still feeling held.

THE ENVIRONMENT

Space communicates what we believe about children.

Big and open, so possibilities can expand. Dynamic and connected, so ideas travel. Bright and welcoming, inviting the world in. Safe and stimulating, supporting fearless exploration. Magical and rich, because imagination grows where an environment can become more than one thing.

Technology with purpose: children do not handle or use phones, tablets, or other personal devices. Facilitators may occasionally use brief audiovisual resources to support a specific activity, always intentionally and sparingly. We want children present with materials, movement, one another, and their own ideas.

Do you know how to make space for an idea?

We look for thoughtful adults who respect childhood, stay curious, listen closely, and know how to challenge a child without taking over the discovery. If that sounds like you, we would like to meet you.
